Cake & Arrow Launches the #FlipHerScript Campaign in Celebration of Women's Equality Day
NEW YORK, Aug. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Cake & Arrow announced the launch of #FlipHerScript, a campaign celebrating Women's Equality Day, which takes place this year on August 26th. The campaign was created by Cake & Arrow's Archery Club, a group of women at Cake & Arrow who meet monthly to explore gender equality issues in the workplace, empower professional growth and opportunity for women, and raise awareness about issues surrounding women's equality.
Women's Equality Day commemorates the ratification of the 19th amendment on August 26th of 1920, which granted women the right to vote. Since being granted the right to vote in 1920, the rights of women have been greatly advanced. Women in this country are empowered to pursue the career of their choice, work in high-powered jobs, including business, technology, and politics, and are outpacing men when it comes to college attendance and graduation.
Despite these significant gains, inequalities for women persist. They earn 71 cents to every dollar a man makes, are significantly underrepresented in the senior leadership of top organizations (and more generally in fields like tech), and a woman has yet to be elected to the highest political office of this country.
#FlipHerScript is designed to raise awareness around the kind of inequalities women in this country continue to face–at work, at home, in school and in their communities. The campaign rewrites the stories of famous and everyday women whose accomplishments have purposely or inadvertently been brushed under the rug–flipping the script, so to speak–to shine light on the courage, tenacity, and extraordinary feats these women have achieved, even in the face of inequalities.
