California Company Provides Solution To New Water Restrictions
ETwater makes their smart irrigation service available for a small subscription fee for homes and businesses
NOVATO, Calif., March 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the announcement by the California State Water Resources Control Board* on Tuesday, ETwater is moving up the availability on the release of the first smart irrigation subscription service. All Californians will now be able to access the commercially used ETwater irrigation management system to comply with the new restrictions and save water. The comprehensive subscription service automatically adjusts an irrigation system with an outdoor watering schedule that uses only the minimum amount of water that any garden, lawn, or landscape requires for staying healthy.
The ETwater service is programmed to immediately update and work with any local watering restrictions or days, including the new California statewide restrictions:
- Limit on all home and business outdoor watering to two days a week.
- The ETwater service automatically schedules irrigation while respecting municipal water windows.
- ETwater successfully "bridges" irrigation of locally mandated water days while reducing personal outdoor water usage by 35% on average annually.
- Homes and business prohibited from watering when it's raining or within two days of rain.
- ETwater is the only smart irrigation service that adjusts for the forecasted weather and suspends watering before a forecasted rain event and for up to two days after it rains based on calculated water depletion rates.
- Upgrade to or install an EPA WaterSense certified smart irrigation controller.
- ETwater is the only available service offering on the market that can retrofit a standard irrigation system to be smart without having to replace the existing controller.
- ETwater is EPA WaterSense certified. Many California water agencies offer rebates for installation of ETwater smart irrigation.
It's estimated that out of 13.8M irrigation systems nationally, less than 12% use smart irrigation or a "weather-based irrigation controller" that utilizes prevailing weather conditions, current and historic evapotranspiration, soil moisture levels, and other relevant environmental factors to automatically adapt watering schedules to prevent water waste.
"We are facing unprecedented water scarcity issues. It's good to see public agencies, leaders, and the public respond," said Lee M. Williams, SVP Product at ETwater. "We want to make everyone aware we have a cost-effective, technology solution."
Consumers and businesses can go to reinvented.etwater.com to register to be notified of the availability of the new service. ETwater intends to make these services available the week of March 22nd, consistent with the recognition of World Water Day.
* The California State Water Board's mission is to preserve, enhance, and restore the quality of California's water resources and drinking water for the protection of the environment, public health, and all beneficial uses, and to ensure proper water resource allocation and efficient use, for the benefit of present and future generations.
