Studies Weekly, Inc. is an innovative curriculum program for teaching 100 percent of the K-6 California History-Social Science content standards. The engaging and user-friendly weekly publications make social studies interesting and fun for students and teachers at an affordable price.
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The State Board of Education (SBE) has officially adopted Studies Weekly, Inc. ("Studies Weekly") publications for use in all K-6 classrooms for an eight-year adoption term. Studies Weekly is a publication alternative to textbooks that provides both full online access for students, teachers, and parents, and 100 percent consumable print materials. Using the online tool, students are able to explore related video, audio, additional maps, journal entries, letters, speeches, photographs, and other primary resources.
The adoption of Studies Weekly's print and digital tools in California puts Studies Weekly on the approved vendor list, making it possible for 100 percent of the California HSS Standards, Analysis Skills and Framework to be taught in Grades K-6 using only one student edition per week. The publications require minimal preparation and include 36 weekly units per grade during 120-180 minutes of class time per week.
Provide Increased Student Engagement
Teachers will find that using Studies Weekly publications with classroom lessons creates a highly adaptable implementation and ensures completion of the correlated curriculum content. Teachers will enjoy flexibility when planning for differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, self-directed learning, and re-teaching. Students will enjoy learning and engaging with both print and digital tools that have been specifically designed to fit their educational needs.
Studies Weekly content includes vivid illustrations and colorful maps along with primary source pictures and documents that appeal to students. Students are also more involved in their own learning when using Studies Weekly's hard copy-version publication because it is consumable. Writing, highlighting, and drawing on the product creates a sense of ownership of the content and allows for close reading.
"What makes us different is that we use a standards-based curriculum to engage students, build on prior learning, and develop critical thinking skills to actively captivate social studies content," stated Kim Mogilevsky, Chief Product Officer at Studies Weekly. "Our format is age-appropriate, user-friendly, and less intimidating than traditional textbooks. We're so happy about this California adoption and the opportunity to provide high-quality learning material to California's students and teachers."
