CALLAHEAD™ Presents the AQUA MOVER™, a World First for the Portable Sanitation Industry
Charles W. Howard invents an internal storm system to keep freshwater moving inside tanks supplying portable sinks
QUEENS, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles W. Howard, President and CEO of CALLAHEAD™, designed the AQUA MOVER™ to change how the portable sanitation industry manages stored freshwater. His invention keeps water moving inside the tanks that supply portable sinks for handwashing and cleaning, addressing the stagnation that can contribute to unpleasant odors and biological buildup.
Portable sinks often rely on water stored in a tank instead of a permanent water connection. Between uses, that water can remain still. Microorganisms occur naturally in many water sources. Under favorable conditions, bacteria, algae and fungi can grow, and microorganisms can attach to tank surfaces, forming a slimy layer known as biofilm. Stagnation can contribute to these conditions.
An internal storm inside the tank
Howard drew inspiration from studying the powerful water movement produced by storms, including hurricanes. He applied the idea of storm-driven currents to a freshwater tank, developing a system that keeps stored water moving even when no one is using the sink.
Positioned near the bottom of the tank, the AQUA MOVER™ works like an underwater fan. Its high-efficiency, 110-volt circulation pump can move approximately 2,100 gallons of water per hour. The resulting currents create what Howard describes as an internal storm, continuously circulating the water while the system operates.
CALLAHEAD™ reports that its studies and experience operating the AQUA MOVER™ found that the system's continuous water movement prevents algae, mold and other microorganisms from attaching to the tank walls while the system is running. This finding addresses the buildup that can develop when stored water remains stagnant. The circulation is also intended to discourage fine particles and minerals from settling. The AQUA MOVER™ operates alongside regular tank cleaning and sanitation.
The AQUA MOVER™ is a world first, an invention bringing an approach not previously used in the portable sanitation field to the freshwater tanks supplying its sinks. Available exclusively through CALLAHEAD™, it reflects Howard's focus on solving problems within the industry. The company considers it one of its most important design innovations for advancing cleanliness and supporting health and safety in portable sanitation.
Half a century advancing the field
Charles W. Howard has spent half a century advancing the field of portable sanitation, creating inventions to solve practical problems and improve the experience of using a portable restroom or sink.
The AQUA MOVER™ builds on Howard's work in portable sanitation design and development since 1976. His CALLAHEAD™ innovations include the Portable Water and Sewer System, along with portable restrooms and sinks designed and manufactured to provide the functions of permanent bathrooms. The AQUA MOVER™ extends that work to the freshwater stored inside the equipment.
Howard's life's work for CALLAHEAD™ is expressed in the company's mission statement, "To Develop and Evolve a Human Necessity." With the AQUA MOVER™, that mission takes a practical form: keep stored sink water moving to help keep it fresh and odor free.
