Calypso Names Melissa Thompson Currier Director, Account Development
Holistic Marketing Professional, Brand Evangelist Joins Calypso's Senior Team
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Jan. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Calypso Communications (www.calypsocom.com), a strategic marketing and public relations firm, announced the appointment of Melissa Thompson Currier as the agency's director of account development. Currier, a former marketing director, executive-level consulting strategist, and agency veteran, is charged with guiding strategic development and success for Calypso's expanding roster of energy, environmental, healthcare, and technology clients.
"In the current economy, sustainable value is paramount to our clients," said Kevin Stickney, Calypso's founder. "Melissa keeps a laser focus on strategy and proactive tactical efforts that are both effective and measurable. She is a pro at keeping clients on track and on message, avoiding reactive modes that are expensive and mission diverting. Calypso is committed to this approach."
Over the course of her career, Currier has worked on both the client and agency sides, in addition to providing strategic consulting to the executive suite. She has worked for local, national, and international organizations ranging from multi-generation, family-owned businesses to major consumer brands, from pre-IPO high-tech startups to public powerhouses, and from political campaigns to trade associations and non-profits.
"I am very excited to join the talented team at Calypso," said Currier. "In today's virtual world, there is no reason for clients to go to D.C. or New York for top-notch PR, marketing, and creative professionals. Compared to a big, urban agency, Calypso's culture leaves more time for humor, clear thinking, and creative insights in everyone's day."
A recent transplant from Annapolis, Maryland, Currier spent more than 15 years in the Washington, D.C., metro area. Her professional highlights include work as the director of interactive services at Crosby Marketing Communications, where she led web and marketing technology strategies for more than 20 clients, including FEDweek and Poverty USA, an award-winning, multi-media PSA for Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
Currier began her career on Capitol Hill and moved on to Shandwick's first public affairs office in D.C., where her clients included the United States Department of Energy (Energy Star), Sharp, Aseptic Packaging Council, and Personal Communications Industry Association (PCIA, now CTIA). Currier also worked on the team that launched the nation's first consumer digital cellular service, Sprint Spectrum. While at Neva Group (now part of Weber Shandwick) in Boston, she spearheaded pre- and post-IPO business press for Cascade Communications.
In recent years, Currier served as director of marketing at Hargrove, Inc., and went on to consult for several political campaigns, the American Association of Publishers, National Media, Serco North America, and Resilience Technology Corporation. Currier is a graduate of The George Washington University, Elliott School of International Affairs where she earned a BA in international communications. Currier is also a graduate and past trustee of Tilton School in Tilton, N.H.
