New study shows that dogs socialize more than their humans

WESTMINSTER, Colo., May 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Camp Bow Wow, a leading dog daycare and boarding provider, launches a systemwide brand refresh and shares the results of a recent national pet parent survey in honor of its 25th anniversary this year.

To learn more about the profound bond between pets and pet parents and the importance of friendship and socialization, Camp Bow Wow commissioned a national poll, distributed by Talker Research. The results reveal a surprising insight: dogs are hanging out with their own dog friends more than pet parents do with their human friends. The survey of 2,000 U.S. dog parents found that 54% believe their dogs have their own friend groups among other dogs, and nearly two-thirds (63%) believe their dog hangs out with their dog friends more than the parent hangs out with their own friends. 

Additional findings from the poll include: 

• Eight in 10 (81%) pet parents believe their dogs feel "very happy" when they get to see their dog friends. 
  
  
• 79% agreed that they feel like both they and their dogs are living their best lives when the dog is able to socialize. 
  
  
• Among pet parents who take their dog to daycare three or more times per month, 92% agree with the statement: "I love seeing my dog make friends — it fills me with a sense of joy."
