Camp Pocono Trails Expects to Mark 100,000 Pounds Lost This Summer as it Hosts Over 700 Kids From 30 States and 6 Countries
NORWOOD, N.J., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The pound dropping power of Camp Pocono Trails is huge. This summer will mark a total of 100,000 pounds lost since the camp's inception in 1999.
Over 700 children ages 7-19 will attend Camp Pocono Trails in Reeders, PA for an average of 4-5 weeks. They are expected to lose an average of 5 pounds per week. Summer 2011 includes the most diverse group of campers yet, coming from 30 states and 6 countries, including Venezuela, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, Israel, England, and France.
Tony Sparber, director and founder of the camp, taps into his 30 years' experience running successful weight loss camps. Reaching the 100,000 pound mark illustrates that Sparber's campers are not only taught how to shed pounds, but how to reformulate their lives to be healthier, happier, and more confident.
Camp Pocono Trails boasts an impressive 350 private acres, with two separate facilities for boys and girls including a lake and two swimming pools. Campers enjoy over 100 ways to have fun -- from unique sports and fitness programs, to exciting off-site events, cultural arts and drama programs, and traditional camp activities -- while building lasting friendships and self-confidence. The camp offers: golf, soccer, tennis, boating, jet skiing, fitness training, drama, arts and crafts, socials, dance classes, water aerobics, weight training, kickboxing, wall climbing, nature hikes, and much more.

There are 6 nutritionists on staff and campers take nutrition, cooking, and behavior modification classes, where the focus is on portion control, balancing food groups, and proper nutritional principles. Nutrition classes cover topics such as healthy snacking, reading food labels, and dining out. In cooking class, the kids learn to prepare tasty, low-fat recipes that can be incorporated into their busy lives at home. The meal plans offer a full vegetarian menu and an option for kosher foods as well.
There are about 30 children in each age group as well as a 4-1 counselor-camper ratio. Here, campers form healthy, age-appropriate friendships with the guidance they need for an enjoyable, successful summer.
Camp Pocono Trails has been featured on two MTV documentaries, "Fat Camp" and "Return to Fat Camp," as well as on Ruby, Good Morning America, Dr. Phil, The Today Show, and in the pages of People magazine, and The New York Times, among others.
