Nebraska Unicameral to Pass Resolution Recognizing Important Nebraska-Canada Relationship
MINNEAPOLIS, March 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, March 15, the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature will consider a resolution honoring the social and economic ties the state shares with Canada. The resolution and a separate proclamation by Governor Heineman will recognize Monday as "Canada Day at the Capitol."
Canada's top diplomat in the Upper Midwest, Consul General Martin Loken, will be on hand to be recognized by the Legislature. Canada is Nebraska's #1 export market. Trade between Nebraska and Canada totaled more than $2.6 billion in 2008, and over 49,000 Nebraska jobs are supported by Canada-US trade.
Loken is appointed by Canada's Prime Minister to represent the Government of Canada in the Upper Midwest region. The Consulate General of Canada is celebrating its 40th anniversary representing Canada in the Upper Midwest.
