Cancer Survivor Launches Book Tour at Historic Elsinore Theatre in Salem, OR
SALEM, Ore., June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- "Live like you were dying" isn't a lyric to a country standard. It's a way of life for motivational speaker David A. Koop, author of "CANCER - It's a Good Thing I Got It!" a new cancer memoir that offers his reflections on life before and after cancer.
The new inspirational book will be launched on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Historic Elsinore Theatre in Salem, OR. This free event is open to the public and will feature music, gifts and inspirational messages.
He will be reading and signing from his new book. His wife, Carrie, who is also a cancer survivor and who conducts workshops with him, will also share her message. For information about the book, go to http://somedaygroup.com/thebook.html
"Everyone talks about doing something 'some day.' Today is 'some day.' Don't wait. Because no one knows when their time is up. If there is something you need to do, do it now. If there is someone you need to tell you love, do it now," said Koop, who recovered from bone cancer of the spine. He had been a very successful businessman who has ventured into reforestation, prepaid legal plans, light manufacturing, the vineyard and wine business, the Christmas tree industry, third-party administration, and business development.
His book stresses several important points:
- Too many people spend all of their time making a living but rarely live life to the fullest.
- The only things in life that really matter are personal relationships - family and friends.
- The need to maintain a positive outlook. "When I was going for treatments, the people who had a reason to live, survived. The people who were negative didn't," he said.
The book can be enjoyed by anyone who wants to get more out of life.
"We are here to help people who want more. Not just more money, but more of everything that life has to offer. More success in your work, more understanding in your relationships with people. More happiness and fulfillment in love," he said. "Life is precious, don't ever look back and say I wish I would have done this or I wish I had done that. Do it now, tell the people in your life that you love them, right now. Treat every day as if it were your last, because we just never know."
The book also contains information on how to deal with friends and family members who have cancer.
"People didn't know what to say. They were scared to death to say the wrong thing," he said. "That was one of the struggles I saw on everyone's face. We deal with that in the book," he said.
