ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CH2M HILL recently organized their third annual Canstruction® event to benefit Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico with six other local businesses and organizations: PR Newswire, U.S. Forest Service, the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Bohannan Huston, Occam Consulting Engineers and the City of Albuquerque's Municipal Development Department. Canstruction is a trademarked design/build competition founded by the Society for Design Administration (SDA). Each team had a 4-foot-by-8-foot space and two hours to build structures from nonperishable food goods (cans and boxes) they had collected or purchased specially for their Canstruction project. The Canstruction collaboration resulted in 7,029 pounds of food and $380.00 donated to Roadrunner Food Bank to benefit vulnerable populations in Albuquerque and New Mexico.

Girl Scout Troops 231 and 1680 built the winning Canstruction: a scaled-down version of Old Town's Plaza Vieja Gazebo. Assisting them in their winning design was Steve Harris, P.E., of Renaissance Engineering LLC. The Structural Ingenuity award went to the City of Albuquerque for their construction of the submarine, U.S.S. Albuquerque. The Best Use of Labels award went to Bohannan Huston for their Day of the Dead graveyard scene. The Best Display of Theme trophy went to the U.S. Forest Service for their tableau of an American flag and spotlighted Twin Towers. CH2M HILL and Occam both received Honorable Mention awards for their New Mexico-themed Christmas trees. At a penny a vote, the People's Choice award for the most cash donations at the event went to the U.S. Forest Service. The top three teams also received gift certificates to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, donated by Asset Management Solutions.
