HUDSON COUNTY, N.J., Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CarePoint Health, a fully integrated healthcare system that provides quality, patient-focused healthcare to residents of the Hudson County region, today announced that the Fall 2015 Hospital Safety Score honored CarePoint Health - Bayonne Medical Center, CarePoint Health - Hoboken University Medical Center, and Carepoint Health – Christ Hospital with "A"'s across the board. The "A" rating is the highest possible grade in patient safety. The Hospital Safety Score, designed to rate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections, is compiled under the guidance of the nation's leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
"This recognition represents CarePoint Health's ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of health care service to patients and families in Hudson County," said Jeff Mandler, CEO of CarePoint Health. "We are extremely proud of all three hospitals and all of our employees as they continue to demonstrate dedication to excellence and to making safe and compassionate patient care a top priority."
"The team at CarePoint Health works hard every day to ensure the safety of our patients," said CarePoint Health Chief Medical Officer, Nizar Kifaieh. "From the doctors and nurses to administrative and support staff, we consider it everyone's responsibility to strive for the highest levels of quality and patient safety. These three "A" ratings are a validation of that effort."
"CarePoint Health's "A" grades validate its achievement in preventing harm within its hospitals, and we are proud to recognize the efforts of the care providers and staff," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which administers the Hospital Safety Score. "Patient safety requires constant vigilance, and we encourage CarePoint Health hospitals and all other A hospitals to continue demonstrating unrelenting commitment to patients by consistently providing a safe environment for care."
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score, representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in October 2015, with 773 receiving an A grade. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent and now, for the first time, patients can also review their hospital's past safety performance alongside its current grade on the Hospital Safety Score site, allowing them to determine which local hospitals have the best track record in patient safety and which have demonstrated consistent improvement.
