DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- CareSource Ohio has been awarded a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the quality of its Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNPs). This esteemed recognition positions CareSource among the top health plans in the nation, particularly for serving members with complex health care needs. Only a small fraction—less than 15%—of participating health plans nationwide have achieved this level of excellence.
The CMS Star Ratings system evaluates health plans based on various quality measures, enabling Medicare-eligible individuals and their families to compare the quality of health and drug plans and select those that best suit their unique needs.
"This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our members in Ohio," said Dave Thomas, Ohio Market President for CareSource. "I am grateful for our dedicated team, who are passionate about delivering exceptional care to our members. Our 4.5-star rating reflects CareSource's excellence in care coordination and our ongoing efforts to address the medical, social and behavioral health needs of those we serve."
CareSource Ohio's D-SNP plan serves more than 8,400 members; most of these individuals are disabled or dually enrolled in Medicaid and Medicare. The 2026 Star ratings highlighted sizeable quality improvement in areas such as member satisfaction and operational efficiency. CareSource received the highest possible rating for member experience and satisfaction with both the health plan and drug plan and medication adherence for members with diabetes. CareSource also demonstrated improvement in multiple measures including hospital readmission rates and member retention.
Earlier this year, CareSource affiliated with Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA), which earned a 4-star rating for its Massachusetts Senior Care Options (SCO) (HMO D-SNP) plan, designed to serve the unique needs of individuals aged 65 and older who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.
Plans with higher star ratings, such as CareSource and CCA, are eligible for additional financial incentives, which further enhance the organization's ability to deliver superior health outcomes and innovative solutions.
