Carnegie Mellon Students Spend Summer Building Institutional Tokenization Infrastructure With OpenAssets

CMU students joined OpenAssets engineering teams to work on real-world systems supporting tokenized markets, from infrastructure and compliance tooling to interoperability.

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnegie Mellon University students spent the summer working alongside OpenAssets engineers on infrastructure for institutional tokenized markets. Their work spanned tokenization systems, compliance tooling, and interoperability, with hands-on involvement in development, testing, debugging, technical documentation, and technical reviews.

The interns worked within active engineering teams building systems for regulated financial institutions, contributing to the technical challenges involved in bringing real-world assets onchain and operating tokenized markets at institutional scale.

The summer program also strengthened OpenAssets' connection to Pittsburgh's engineering ecosystem, with Carnegie Mellon at its center. It brought students directly into the work of building the infrastructure behind a new generation of financial markets.

OpenAssets' network includes the world's largest exchange, ICE, the world's largest stablecoin issuer, Tether, the world's largest digital sports platform, Fanatics, as well as Itaú, Mysten Labs, KraneShares, Chainlink, and many other leading institutions. Working alongside the teams behind this infrastructure gave Carnegie Mellon students firsthand experience with how institutional-grade financial systems are built, tested, and brought into production.
