Carolyn Coleman Named Executive Director of the League of California Cities

WASHINGTON and SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National League of Cities (NLC) and the League of California Cities (LCC) today announced that Carolyn Coleman will join the LCC as the League's new executive director. Coleman, who has served as a senior executive and director of federal advocacy at NLC since 2006, will begin in her new role in mid-December.

Coleman has more than 25 years of experience as a leader and an advocate in the public and private sectors, including as deputy mayor for the City of Indianapolis, Indiana. As deputy mayor, she led the administration's initiatives involving metropolitan development, parks and public works and served as the mayor's chief liaison to community-based and neighborhood organizations and their leadership.

Coleman was chosen by an executive search committee and was confirmed by the LCC's board of directors on Friday. She was selected to replace the LCC's former executive director, Chris McKenzie, following a national recruitment conducted by a search committee comprised of the League's executive officers and other members of its board of directors. Coleman is the first woman to serve as the LCC's executive director since its founding in 1898.

In addition to her public sector experience, Carolyn also has practiced law and held marketing leadership positions in the private sector.
