GLENDALE, Calif., Sept. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Surpassing all expectations for wildfire growth and fundraising efforts, Carry the Future celebrates one year of creating positive change in the lives of refugee families. Started by one Californian mother moved to act, Carry the Future has grown into a 100% volunteer-run, global non-profit organization with 501c3 status, helping over 13,000 refugee families in only twelve short months.
In September 2015, Cristal Logothetis was forever changed by the heart-wrenching image of a refugee child washed ashore, whose family was trying to reach safety in Greece. Compelled to act, Cristal aimed to collect 100 baby carriers and enough funds to ship them to relatives in Greece, who could distribute them to refugee families. Her efforts quickly went viral with national headlines and broadcast segments. Within a month, donations skyrocketed to over $42,000, with 3,000 baby carriers donated and dozens of offers from volunteers to help.
Today, Carry the Future has hand-delivered staggering amounts of humanitarian aid, with volunteers personally fitting over 13,000 baby carriers, giving 61 baby boxes filled with supplies for newborns and mothers, and providing thousands of emergency items to refugee families. To date, Carry the Future has raised over $250,000 from over 5,000 individual donors with over 50% of donations under $50. Now having earned its 501c3 status, this non-profit organization has rallied 5,300+ active volunteers from around the globe, who have given over 75,000 volunteer hours between September 2015 to September 2016.
Carry the Future stands in solidarity with refugee families worldwide by personally providing material aid to ease their journey, while creating meaningful opportunities for global volunteers to be a collective force of action and hope.
