POMONA, Calif., July 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare is pleased to announce its 21st Land Meets Sea Sports Camp, August 3–5, 2016, in Long Beach at Marine Stadium and other sites in the area. For more than 30 years, the Casa Colina Outdoor Adventures program has provided therapeutic outdoor experiences to thousands of people with disabilities and special needs, each featuring staff comprised of Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists along with trained volunteers ensuring the highest level of safety for all participants.
The Land Meets Sea Sports Camp features adaptive water, land, recreation and competitive sports. People with varying disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in numerous sports activities including hand cycling, jet skiing, water skiing, outrigger canoeing and sailing. Wheelchair sports include quad rugby, hockey, basketball, and tennis.
"The Land Meets Sea Sports Camp is truly one of a kind," said Tommy Hollenstein, a participant of last year's program. Hollenstein is paralyzed and wheelchair-bound due to a spinal cord injury from a biking accident nearly 30 years ago. "It is a great place for a newly injured person or person with a long-time disability to try out a variety of sports and feel 100 percent safe. For me, waterskiing is a thrill of a lifetime," he added.
Last year's Land Meets Sea Sports Camp event attracted nearly 100 participants, both adults and children, with the support of more than 50 dedicated volunteers from the surrounding community.
This year's event is sponsored by the Rudolph & Daphne Munzer Foundation, the Crossfit Foundation, Ted & Eve Christensen, Precision Rehab and many other community donors.
The fee for the three-day camp is $300, which includes participation in all events, lunch, a goodie bag and a t-shirt.
