Catherine Gruener Selected As Top Counselor Of The Year

Currently, she provides counseling, Cogmed coaching, professional speaking, and parent education through her private practice, Gruener Consulting LLC, in Oak Brook, Illinois. From teaching and research to clinical practice and social advocacy, Catherine exemplifies the range and reach of a clinical counselor.  She has taught numerous courses from introductory college classes to workshops on effective parent techniques, brain-behavior approaches, and the social and emotional issues of children, with private, state, and national institutions. She published her first book, Parenting Young Gifted Children: What to Expect When You Have the Unexpected, in 2016.  Her research initiatives span community-wide Drug and Alcohol Needs Assessment in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University, early detection of Alzheimer's disease through Loyola University Medical Center, to supporting PTSD research initiatives for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom at the Veterans Administration. She has provided a range of clinical assessments and direct counseling services in inpatient, outpatient, and residential facilities across the U.S.  While overseas, as a counselor and research assistant at the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands Health Center, she received awards for her social advocacy, supporting people with disabilities. 

Catherine has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership. She has been inducted into Elite American Educators, Elite Women Worldwide, Marquis Who's Who and selected as "Outstanding Professional of the Year" by Cambridge Who's Who.  She was also selected as "Top Female Executive" and was featured in a chapter in the "Top 101 Industry Expert publication." In 2016 named "Top Clinical Professional Counselor of the Year."  She is an active volunteer with and is affiliated with several national and state professional organizations including, the North American Society of Adlerian Professionals, the National Association for Gifted Children, the American Counseling Association, and the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association.
