Catholic Health Services Awarded Most Wired Designation

This focus is evident, as CHS earned the Most Wired® designation for the third time in four years. Awarded by the American Hospital Association's Health Forum (AHA), this prestigious distinction recognizes excellence in IT leadership on the frontlines of health care transformation.

CHS is an integrated delivery system with six hospitals, three nursing homes, a home nursing service, hospice, an agency for those with special needs and numerous physician practices. As most Long Islanders know, while the distance from Port Jefferson to Roslyn is not that far, the time it can take to get from one to the other can be quite lengthy. At CHS, traffic is not an issue, as the system employs an electronic medical record (EMR) system known as Epic. MyChart is an essential component of the EMR, allowing patients to check their medical records and their family's all in one place. They can refill prescriptions, request appointments online, get lab results, email their physicians and more.
According to the survey, Most Wired hospitals are using smart phones, telehealth and remote monitoring to create more ways for patients to access health care services and capture health information.
The survey of 698 participants, representing an estimated 2,158 hospitals—more than 39 percent of all hospitals in the U.S.—examines how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based health care in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.
