RAPID CITY, S.D., Nov. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- 40 years ago, award winning chemist, Dr. John Willard PhD, launched CAW Industries Inc. as a vehicle to sell his now famous Willard Water® products he'd invented in 1964.  Headquartered in Rapid City, South Dakota, CAW Industries has grown from a small family business that was run out of Dr. Willard's basement to an international corporation with business partners and customers all over the world.

Dr. John W Willard, Sr., was a professor of chemistry at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and former chemistry instructor at the Virginia Military Institute who had worked on the United States' atomic and plutonium bomb development teams during, and immediately after, World War II.  Dr. Willard invented his now famous Willard Water® in 1964 while seeking to develop a high density trace mineral water derived from fossilized organics in lignite.  Dr. Willard began conducting serious research on his product by engaging farmers and ranchers in the communities immediately surrounding Rapid City and they, and their neighbors, soon began making the product part of their daily routine.  The enthusiasm shown by South Dakotans for Dr. Willard's products was so strong they helped spawn a hearing before the United State Congress and a 60 Minutes story on Dr. Willard which exposed Dr. Willard's products to a worldwide audience.
