CDC Ignores Mercury in Vaccines But Warns U.S. of 'Zombie Apocalypse'

SILVER SPRING, Md., May 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – CoMeD – On Monday, May 16, 2011, Rear Admiral Ali S. Khan, M.D., MPH,  Assistant Surgeon General and Director, Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response of the U.S. Centers for Disease and Prevention Control (CDC) posted, "Social Media: Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse," describing, "There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Members of the Coalition for Mercury-free Drugs (CoMeD) are concerned about the credibility and judgment of the CDC in light of the new activities undertaken by the agency, especially since the CDC is responsible for recommending that pregnant women (since 1997) and children (since 2002) get mercury-preserved flu shots.

CoMeD has continually raised concerns about the persistent presence of mercury, in the form of Thimerosal, in vaccines because mercury is recognized to cause cancer, genetic mutations, miscarriages and birth defects.  Today, because of the 1999 call to remove Thimerosal from U.S. vaccines "as soon as possible," 2-phenoxyethanol, a much less toxic alternative to Thimerosal, has been used as a preservative in some formerly Thimerosal-preserved U.S. vaccines licensed since 2001.

In June 2007, a U.S. Senate subcommittee issued an oversight report, "CDC Off Center," describing, "A review of how an agency tasked with fighting and preventing disease has spent hundreds of millions of tax dollars for failed prevention efforts, international junkets, and lavish facilities, but cannot demonstrate it is controlling disease."  Previously, in May 2003, the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, Committee on Government Reform issued a report, "Mercury in Medicine," which concluded, "Thimerosal used as preservative in vaccines is likely related to the autism epidemic ... Our public health agencies failure to act is indicative of institutional malfeasance for self-protection and misplaced protectionism of the pharmaceutical industry."

Today, toxic exposure to mercury occurs in pregnant women and young children through flu shots, where most doses still are Thimerosal-preserved and allowed to be given to children and pregnant women.  New studies have proven organic mercury in vaccines and the inorganic mercury generated in the body there from are associated with neurological deficits such as autism, language delay and tics in children, and Alzheimer's in adults.

Addressing the administration of Thimerosal-preserved vaccines, a new study from the Josef Stefan Institute of Slovenia and the University of Brasilia in Brazil stated, "... current acute doses of (ethylmercury) in vaccines are capable of being retained in the baby's body".

Another new study from the University of Cairo in Egypt reported, "studies have shown that there is a biological possibility and epidemiological evidence showing a direct relationship between increasing doses of mercury from thimerosal-containing vaccines and neurodevelopmental disorders...(and) patients receiv(ing) additional vaccines...showed a significant increase in hair mercury level."
