WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Working Paper on the Change in Cohabiting Couples from 2009 to 2010 — This research paper from Rose Kreider, a demographer in the Census Bureau's Housing and Household Economic Statistics Division, examines the factors that may have contributed to the increase in cohabitation as well as the characteristics of couples living together. It compares couples who began cohabiting within the last year with couples who have lived together for at least a year. The paper notes the increase in cohabiting couples from 6.7 million in 2009 to 7.5 million in 2010 and suggests that economic factors may have contributed to the increase.
