Center for Medical Technology Policy (CMTP) Names Elisabeth Houtsmuller to Lead Green Park Collaborative-USA

BALTIMORE, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Center for Medical Technology Policy (CMTP) recently announced the selection of Elisabeth Houtsmuller, PhD, as Senior Program Director for the Green Park Collaborative-USA (GPC-USA).  GPC-USA is a multi-stakeholder forum that develops condition and technology-specific study design recommendations to guide the generation of evidence needed to inform both clinical as well as coverage and payment decisions in the United States.

Dr. Houtsmuller will play a central role in operations of GPC-USA—leading, planning and coordinating the initiative's activities.  She will also join CMTP's Senior Leadership Team.

In her previous position with Hayes, Inc., a health technology assessment and consulting firm, Dr. Houtsmuller served as managing editor and oversaw the production of evaluations of the efficacy and safety of medical and mental health treatments, diagnostics, and technologies.  She also served as director of mental and behavioral health programs and as senior medical research analyst at Hayes, conducting literature searches, efficacy evaluations, report generations, and related presentations.

Prior to joining Hayes, Dr. Houtsmuller was an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore. She was extensively involved in grant writing and management, and in human subjects research, including the design, execution, statistical analysis and publication of more than 20 research studies, particularly focused on drug and alcohol dependence. 

Dr. Houtsmuller's publications include peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters and abstracts, and she has taught undergraduate courses in both psychology and statistics. She served as the chair of the IRB of the Institute for Behavioral Resources in Baltimore, MD, from 2004 to 2012.

Dr. Houtsmuller received a PhD in Psychology from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and completed postgraduate work at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
