Central Basin Recognized for Outstanding Information Technology Practices for 5th Year in a Row

District receives prestigious recognition for exceeding industry standards

COMMERCE, Calif., March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Central Basin Municipal Water District has been recognized with the Excellence in Information Technology Practices Achievement Award by the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC). This marks the 5th consecutive award Central Basin has received for exceeding industry standards in the information technology arena. MISAC enhances local government services and effectiveness through the promotion of leadership and access to resources for local agency technology professionals.

MISAC established the Excellence in Information Technology Practices program in 1999 to recognize cities and special districts that exceed industry practices. The program, which is highly prestigious and competitive, is revised on an annual basis to keep up to date with evolving industry standards. Winning entries are judged by an impartial evaluation committee of IT Directors who rate each application in 10 major categories such as budget, operations, project management and security.

The Excellence in Information Technology Practices award is the second recognition in recent months that Central Basin has received. In November 2011, the district was recognized for practicing excellence in financial transparency and disclosure by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

Central Basin is a public agency that wholesales imported water to cities, mutual water companies, investor-owned utilities and private companies in southeast Los Angeles County, serving a population of more than 2 million. In addition, Central Basin provides the region with recycled water for municipal, commercial and industrial uses.
