CertainTeed Prepares to Meet Future Demand with the Construction of a New Asphalt Shingle Manufacturing Plant

VALLEY FORGE, Pa., Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CertainTeed Corporation announces plans to open a state-of-the-art asphalt roofing shingle plant servicing the Central Region of the U.S. The company is currently evaluating several locations throughout the Midwest.

The new facility, which is expected to employ approximately 125 people, will be CertainTeed's first greenfield roofing plant since the company built its Oxford, N.C. plant in 1978, currently the world's largest shingle plant.

The construction of this plant and its key positioning will help prepare CertainTeed to meet increased market demand for asphalt shingles and reinforces the company's commitment to top-notch service and easier access to strategically important customers.

Upon completion of this new facility, CertainTeed will own and operate five, four-wide laminated shingle lines in North America, manufacturing the highly popular Landmark™ series laminated shingles.  Currently, CertainTeed operates 10 asphalt shingle plants, one low-slope commercial roofing facility and three stand-alone granule production plants throughout the U.S.
