Certintell Releases COVID-19 Telehealth Guide

With the spread of the novel COVID-19, patients who may be experiencing symptoms should limit their contact with others if possible. As of now, a vaccine potentially a year and a half away.1 That said, solutions must be considered on how to best contain COVID-19. One way is through telehealth, especially for frontline Community Health Centers. - H.R.6074: Passed on March 6 and grants $8.3 billion to address COVID-19, allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to waive the rule that Medicare patients using telehealth cannot use their home as the originating site.
- Vulnerable Populations: The older the individual, the higher the fatality rate. Additionally, the presence of underlying chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or cancer also increase a patient's chance of catching COVID-19.2
- Telehealth Assisting Containment: Using telehealth to initially screen patients reduces the time spent waiting for a provider in crowded clinics and hospitals. It also keeps patients from having to go to crowded areas if they are experiencing symptoms and potentially infecting others.
- Opportunities Enabling Billable Events: Although there are some barriers to begin using remote care to combat COVID-19, there are opportunities to streamline the process such as enabling clinical staff to reach out to patients and gain their consent for services.
