Le Néo-Zélandais Jason Wynyard est le meilleur athlète de bûcheronnage sportif au monde. L'homme de 42 ans est parvenu à coup de hache et de scie à remporter son huitième titre de champion du monde lors du Championnat du monde STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® 2016 avec un style incontestable. L'argent est revenu à Matthew Cogar des États-Unis et la troisième place a été remportée par Martin Komárek de République tchèque. Hier déjà, les athlètes de bûcheronnage sportif d'Australie avaient remporté le titre en équipe dans les catégories hache et scie, établissant deux nouveaux records du monde. Les deux journées de compétition ont été suivies par 11 000 spectateurs dans un stade Porsche bondé, à Stuttgart.

L'ancien et le nouveau champions viennent de Nouvelle-Zélande  

Cette compétition de bûcheronnage sportif a été réellement palpitante avec 14 records nationaux, un nouveau record du monde et un champ de départ illustre, mais à la fin, personne n'a réussi à battre Jason Wynyard de Nouvelle-Zélande, un athlète exceptionnel et maintenant huit fois champion du monde. Depuis le début sur les talons de Wynyard, l'américain Matthew Cogar a cependant montré des faiblesses dans deux disciplines de hache. Elles lui ont coûté de précieux points et l'ont finalement renvoyé à la deuxième place. Le Tchèque Martin Komárek a remporté la troisième place grâce à une performance constante et seulement quelques points de retard, devenant ainsi le meilleur concurrent européen. Le champion du monde est fier de son huitième titre : « Il m'a fallu du temps et beaucoup de travail pour y arriver. Ma performance constante m'a finalement permis de remporter le titre. C'est pour cela que je suis maintenant extrêmement ravi. » Mais pour Stirling Hart du Canada, le championnat du monde a été riche en rebondissements. Outre quatre records canadiens, il a établi un nouveau record du monde au Springboard (tremplin). Toutefois, avec la tronçonneuse de compétition Hot Saw, il a visé trop haut et perdu ses chances de monter sur le podium en raison d'une disqualification et a fini quatrième.

L'équipe gagnante   

Dans la course par équipe, quatre athlètes australiens ont débité en rondelles quatre rondins à l'aide de leurs haches et tronçonneuses en 46,45 secondes. Ils ont non seulement établi un nouveau record du monde, mais ont également remporté leur troisième titre de champions du monde par équipe. Le capitaine Brad DeLosa a célébré avec enthousiasme la victoire de son équipe : « Chacun d'entre nous a fait une excellente compétition et le nouveau record en est le point culminant. L'ambiance à Stuttgart était indescriptible. L'objectif pour l'année prochaine est évident : gagner un quatrième titre. » Le Canada, son adversaire en finale, n'a rien pu faire. L'équipe des États-Unis a battu l'un des principaux favoris, les Néo-Zélandais, en quart de finale avant de distancer largement l'équipe tchèque lors de la petite finale, obtenant ainsi la troisième place. Les Tchèques sont tout de même devenus la meilleure équipe européenne du Championnat du monde 2016.
