FOR DECEMBER 10, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United Nations in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Fund will be hosting an international symposium on the challenges of implementing Sustainable Energy for All at the National Constitution Center.
"This event is unique in that it seeks to effectively disseminate experience and lessons learned at the global level to inform regional and local level implementation," stated Dr. George Assaf, Director and Representative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization to the UN and other International Organizations. He continued, "it is also essential to identify success stories at the local level, such as those from the US and other countries, which have potential relevance across regions and states, as well as internationally."
The SE4All initiative aims to bring together all key stakeholders from the public and private sector, academia and civil society to make sustainable energy for all a reality by 2030. SE4All features three global energy targets: ensuring universal access to modern energy services; doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. These ambitious goals often encounter difficulties when attempts are made to translate them into regional and local contexts.
"We are very excited to be partnering with the United Nations and sharing the lessons we have learned more over the last decade in translating the broad vision for the Sustainable Energy Fund into actual increases in energy efficiency and renewable energy," stated Jennifer Hopkins, President of Sustainable Energy Fund. She continued, "It will be interesting learning what others are doing around the world to implement the Sustainable Energy for All agenda."
The event features the who's of who of sustainable energy including Dr. George Assaf, Director of United Nations Industrial Development Organization and UNIDO Representative to the United Nations; Mr. Carsten Staur, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations; Mr. Minoru Takada, Senior Policy Advisor on Energy, Strategic Planning Unit, Executive Office of the Secretary-General; Dr. Robert F. Ichord Jr., Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Energy Resources, U.S. Department of State; Mr. Andrew Stein, Chairman, SEF; Ms. VeerleVandeweerd, Director, Environment & Energy Group, United Nations Development Programme; Professor Mark Alan Hughes, Distinguished Senior Fellow University of Pennsylvania; Mr. Vatsal Bhatt, Research Engineer & Energy Policy Analyst, Systems Analysis & International Cooperation Brookhaven National Laboratory.
