Charitable Kids' "Olympics" Hosted At Ford Center At The Star

DULUTH, Ga., Aug. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As the Cowboys prepare to face the 49ers at the AT&T Stadium, more than 700 students will take to the Cowboys' practice field at Ford Center at The Star on Thursday, August 9 from 9:30 AM to 1 PM as a culmination of their summer efforts. They have been training the past three months as part of the Kids 'R' Kids regional program to compete in a day of friendly games that includes 11 DFW-area schools. The children have also spent the summer raising money for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children which is one of the nation's leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, sports injuries and fractures, as well as certain related arthritic and neurological disorders and learning disorders.

Since its inception, the annual Summer Olympics event has donated more than $82,000 to various charitable organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While last year's event raised more than $12,000 for Scottish Rite Hospital, this year's proceeds are expected to exceed that.

"As we prepare to open the new Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center in Frisco this fall, the support we receive from the members of our community is fundamental in continuing our mission of providing world-class medical care regardless of any family's ability to pay."

The day's schedule begins with children filing into the stadium in teams, the national anthem and (oversized) check presentation. Games, which take place simultaneously, include Sack Races, 50-Yard Dash, Football Obstacle Course, and Dodge Ball. The events will culminate with the announcement of winning teams in three areas: athletic games, funds raised for donation, and team spirit.
