New suite helps employers detect and stop sophisticated hiring fraud with continuous identity and fraud signals across the hiring lifecycle
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Checkr, the AI-powered verification platform for high-stakes decisions, today launched its Fraud Detection Suite as hiring fraud becomes one of the fastest-growing threats facing businesses today. Built on more than a decade of identity verification expertise, Checkr's fraud solution helps employers detect and prevent fraud at every stage of the hiring process, from the initial application and interview through post-hire reverifications.
Hiring fraud is no longer limited to falsified resumes or credentials. Bad actors can now impersonate real people across multiple stages of the hiring process, exposing the limitations of point-in-time checks that only verify credentials in a single moment. The FBI has warned that North Korean IT workers are using stolen identities and other techniques to obtain employment with U.S. organizations, and the Department of Justice has prosecuted schemes involving stolen American identities used to secure jobs at more than 100 U.S. companies. These schemes are already operating at a significant scale, generating an estimated $800 million a year for North Korea.
"Hiring was built for a world where a resume, a video interview and a government ID were reliable proxies for identity. AI has broken that model," said Daniel Yanisse, co-founder and CEO of Checkr. "Today, a candidate can fabricate not just their credentials, but the identity behind them. A one-time identity check is no longer enough. Employers need more sophisticated and continuous verification methods across the hiring lifecycle to know that the person applying, interviewing and ultimately showing up for work is the same individual."
Checkr's data shows fraud is already hitting hiring funnels at scale. In a recent analysis of customers using Checkr's resume fraud detection in beta, 36% of inbound resumes triggered flags for further review, with technical roles appearing to be the biggest targets. Flags were triggered on 50% of software and AI engineering resumes, compared with 23% to 27% across sales, marketing and operations roles.
Introducing continuous fraud detection for hiring
Checkr's Fraud Detection Suite connects fraud signals across the hiring process, giving employers a fuller picture instead of a single snapshot in time.
The suite includes:
- AI-powered resume fraud detection: flags potentially fraudulent applications before they consume interview resources, using several layers of evaluation:
- PII and fraud signal analysis: checks phone numbers, email addresses and online presence against known fraud signals and reputational history.
- Credential verification: compares resume claims against Checkr's graph database of more than 260 million verified profiles.
- Image comparison: matches images from across the hiring process against the candidate's online presence, interview stills and government-issued ID to flag mismatches.
- Deepfake detection: analyzes video, audio and photos from remote interviews for synthetic or AI-altered content.
- Biometric identity verification: compares a live selfie with the candidate's government-issued ID in real time. It also includes liveness detection which confirms the candidate is a live person, not a photo, deepfake or video replay.
- Device signals: detect device footprint, manipulation and spoofing.
- Location correlation: flags candidates who disguise their location using VPNs, proxies or emulators, or who appear to be somewhere other than where they claim to be.
The suite's capabilities draw on Checkr's data graph spanning billions of records across more than 260 million unique U.S. identities, helping surface patterns that may not be visible through a single, point-in-time verification.
"The rise of AI has fundamentally shifted how candidate information is presented, making traditional vetting less reliable," said Megan Baldock, head of people at Datavations. "Checkr's fraud detection tool provides a critical layer of verification. The best way to set your talent acquisition team up for success in this world of deepfakes and AI resumes is to have a layered approach with checks and balances at every stage. Checkr's resume fraud tool is a no-brainer as a first line of defense."
