Chester Township signs on for Simkar Safe City™ Systems as part of Simkar Smart City™ Initiative

NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As 2018 draws to a close the future is looking bright for Chester Township, Pennsylvania.   

After being selected as the first town in Simkar's Smart City™ Initiative earlier this year and with Chester Township officials granting final approval in October, it appears that the year plus of planning and engineering between the Chester Township and Simkar Corp is about to pay off. Thanks in large part to the ERSA program (Energy Reduction Services Agreement), Simkar, who has manufactured large-scale lighting equipment in Philadelphia since 1956, will be able to provide Chester Township with state of the art Smart Emergency Management Systems with no out of pocket cost to taxpayers.

Capstone Credit, LLC's Managing Member, Joseph F. Ingrassia, is also pleased to participate in funding the Simkar Safe City™ initiative which will help Chester Township adapt the advanced technology that will benefit its citizen through more effective law enforcement and at the same time reduce the township's operating cost.

The most immediate and noticeable change from Simkar's Safe City™ Initiative will be the retrofitting of all existing street lights with Smart LED Lighting, though it's the things that aren't so noticeable that have those involved with the project excited. 

"When our police now respond to a situation, they're getting visual and audible information from the scene before they even arrive, that's just incredible. It's like they were going in blind before," said Kyle Davis, owner of KC Electrical Services in Chester. 

Within each retrofitted Smart LED Lighting module could be an array of sensors with some even including cameras and microphones that when combined with each other help to create a digital mesh emergency system throughout Chester Township. By having each Smart LED module connected in a virtual grid, law enforcement can now help pinpoint the location of something as serious gunshots or as simple as a lost pet. 

In 2007 the Baltimore Police installed an early camera only integrated system that helped reduce crime in their city by 17 percent by years end, while Philadelphia reduced a 37 percent drop in criminal activities after installing cameras as well.

"We have good people here in Chester Township," said Officer Kevin Paden, "Our problem is crime from outside coming in, but Simkar will be helping us with that or at least blind them with some of those bright lights."
