Chihuly Garden and Glass Unveils New Holiday Installation
White Winter Tower with Golden Putti, created for exhibition's Glasshouse
SEATTLE, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- This winter, Nov. 12, 2014 – Jan. 28, 2015, visitors to Seattle's Chihuly Garden and Glass, which offers a look at the most comprehensive collection of Dale Chihuly's artwork on public view, will be greeted with a new installation by the artist. White Winter Tower with Golden Putti, a 14-foot-tall white and gold piece, celebrates the Venetian influence on Chihuly's work. It also features elements of the artist's adored Putti series.
Originally, the Putti series, evolved from an invitation Chihuly received in 1989 to conduct a demonstration at Pilchuck Glass School with Italian Master Pino Signoretto, combined vessel forms with solid hot-glass figurative sculpture. Putto, Italian for cherub, is often associated with wood or plaster forms that lent lightheartedness to Renaissance and Baroque art.
As a result of the work with Signoretto, Chihuly found that glass as a medium highlighted the mischievous personalities of the Putti, inspiring him to experiment with them in his Venetian series, and later Ikebana. They are, however, not often found in Chihuly's dramatic Towers or Chandeliers, making White Winter Tower with Golden Putti a truly unique artwork experience for visitors.

In addition to the White Winter Tower with Golden Putti, Chihuly Garden and Glass is also presenting special programming for families this holiday season. Every Sunday, Nov. 30-Dec. 21, 2014, the exhibition will offer tours, art activities and musical performances perfectly suited for families and kids of all ages.
