Children's Minnesota ranked a top pediatric hospital by U.S. News & World Report
Children's pulmonology and diabetes and endocrinology programs ranked in 2016-2017 Best Children's Hospitals
MINNEAPOLIS, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Minnesota has once again been honored by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children's Hospital, with its pulmonology program ranking 33rd and diabetes and endocrinology program ranking 49th in the nation for 2016-2017. This year marks the first time its diabetes and endocrinology program has been included in the rankings.
Children's comprehensive pulmonology program includes the diagnosis, treatment and management of pulmonary disorders such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, croup and other conditions. For children who struggle to control their respiration, sleep staging and esophageal pH recordings, Children's has the only diagnostic sleep lab in the Upper Midwest dedicated solely to the care of pediatric patients. Children's Cystic Fibrosis Center is a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation accredited Translational and Therapeutics Development Center, which means these patients – whose condition is pulmonary related – get the most advanced therapies available through participation in clinical trials.
Children's diabetes and endocrine program cares for more young patients with type 1 diabetes — the type typically found in children and teens — than any other medical center in the state and sees a growing number of teens with type 2 diabetes. Our large expert team of professionals, dedicated solely to the care of children and teens, also diagnoses and treats all kinds of endocrine disorders, including growth disorders, abnormally early or delayed puberty and diseases of the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands. Children's McNeely Pediatric Diabetes Center offers the latest technology, drug therapies and devices to help patients manage their diabetes.

The Best Children's Hospitals rankings highlight U.S. News's top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology. Seventy-eight hospitals ranked in at least one specialty, based on a combination of clinical data and reputation with pediatric specialists.

U.S. News introduced the Best Children's Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of sick children find the best medical care available. The rankings open the door to an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance.
Most of each hospital's score relied on patient outcomes and care-related resources. U.S. News garnered clinical data from a detailed questionnaire sent to approximately 180 pediatric hospitals. A sixth of the score came from annual surveys of pediatric specialists and subspecialists in each specialty in 2013, 2014 and 2015. They were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside considerations of location and expense.
The U.S. News Best Children's Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists.
