100 percent of GMC students received financial aid for the 2017/2018 academic year, and 90 percent received at least $20,000. GMC offers a level of financial predictability not found at most private or public schools: in addition to freezing tuition at the first-year rate, GMC will cover tuition for extra semesters if the student takes more than 4 years to graduate. GMC matches stated University of Vermont (UVM) tuition for Vermont residents and Community College of Vermont graduates automatically qualify for this Vermont Tuition Match. In many cases, it is less expensive to attend GMC than the student's state school. And every semester, all campus-based undergraduate students get all of their required textbooks on the first day of class for no additional charge. Because of GMC's commitment to affordability, GMC students that do graduate with student loan debt have less to pay back than the national average. And, GMC student loan debt has decreased by $9,000 per student over the past 3 years.
This commitment to educating students who want to make a difference while making a living is also evident in GMC's coveted First in Sustainability Scholarship Award. Now in its second year, the Scholarship covers four years of tuition, room, board and fees, a value of approximately $200,000. This award is based on an essay outlining how the student would use a GMC education to make a change for a better, more sustainable world. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2018.
