OAKVILLE, Calif., Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Christian Moueix announced today that he will launch a new wine from Napa Valley, ULYSSES.
Homer's Odyssey recounts the story of Ulysses' ten-year voyage home after the Trojan War, an adventure of epic challenges. Moueix, inspired by Ulysses' unending devotion to his quest, embarks on a new journey to produce a distinctive wine from the Ulysses Vineyard in Oakville.
Situated along the Oakville Bench at the foot of the Mayacamas Range, this historic vineyard was part of the original Charles Hopper Ranch in the 1800's, and was purchased by Moueix in 2008. "Since then," says Moueix, "we have undertaken meticulous vineyard restoration. We needed time to study the soil types and microclimates of the property."
Ulysses is an estate-bottled Cabernet Sauvignon, with touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The first vintage to be released, Ulysses 2012, is a finely sculpted wine with elegance and lift.
Produced by Ulysses Wine Cellars, the wine will be distributed in the U.S. by Dreyfus, Ashby & Company and will initially be available in retail and restaurant establishments in 23 states.
Internationally, the wine will be sold through Autres Rivages, Libourne, France.
Christian Moueix is recognized as one of the wine world's great visionaries. Today, along with Dominus Estate and Ulysses Vineyard in Napa Valley, Moueix and his son, Edouard, produce wines from eight family châteaux in Pomerol and Saint Emilion, France.
