Cincinnati Ford Dealers Ready To Start Receiving Orders of New Focus Electric

CINCINNATI, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- According to sources close to Ford Motor Company, the US auto-giant will begin shipping first allotments of its Focus Electric Hatchback to North American dealers this week. While Ford Motor Company has declined to comment on the news, many industry experts agree that Ford is still on track to ship the Focus Electric this Spring. This is welcome news considering the recent jump in the electric vehicle market - in the first four months of 2012, GM has sold 5,377 Chevrolet Volts, while Nissan has distributed 2,103 of its Leaf electric cars - both vehicles were launched in 2010.

Americans have been typically slow to adopt the electric car craze over concerns for high retail cost and vast improvements to more fuel-efficient gas-powered engines, but the first electric model from an American auto maker is expected to strike a welcome chord with most domestic customers. The Ford Focus Electric is powered by a 100-kilowatt electric-motor with a 23 kWh battery. Working together the system produces 123-hp and 181 lb-ft. of torque. The Focus Electric can travel at a top speed of 84 mph and has a total range of up to 100 miles on a single charge. With the 240-volt home charging station, the Focus Electric can reach full charge in about 3 to 4 hours. On a standard 120-volt outlet, the Focus Electric will take up to 20 hours.
