LINCOLN-JUAREZ ESSAY FIRST ANNUAL COMPETITION
WASHINGTON, April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As Mexico and the United States commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the US Civil War and the French intervention in Mexico, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) and the State of Puebla, Mexico have entered into a scholar and historic research partnership.
"There is little knowledge of the importance of the Lincoln-Juarez relationship that was vital to their victories. The Essay Scholarship Contest will underscore the impact and the ties that binds both nations," said Eric Rojo, MOLLUS Chancellor in Chief.
The essay encourages students to explore the close relationship between both legitimate governments and in particular Presidents Lincoln and Juarez and how their relationship had many political and historical ramifications.
"In 1862 Mexico faced an invader from France, while the United States defended the Union and the equality of all men. Both struggles not just coincided in time but also coincided in an inalienable principle: freedom of our citizens," added the Hon. Luis Maldonado-Venegas, Government of Puebla Secretary of Education
The Lincoln-Juarez Historical Literary Essay Scholarship Competition is for all US college students who are enrolled at the time of entry. MOLLUS in partnership with the Secretary of Education of the Government of Puebla, Mexico are seeking to ensure that there is a more comprehensive understanding of the deep roots of cooperation between Mexico and the United States while recognizing, encouraging and rewarding students.
MOLLUS and the Government of Puebla will award prizes as follow: The First Prize will be awarded $5000 and the Second Prize will be awarded $3000.
