SAN MATEO, Calif., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cirrent, the company partnered with network providers to improve Wi-Fi for connected products, announced today that it has accepted Samsung's invitation to join the SAMSUNG ARTIK platform to bring enhanced Wi-Fi configuration, connectivity and security to IoT products. Cirrent technology will be integrated with the SAMSUNG ARTIK platform to make it easy for product companies to bring ZipKey-enabled products to market. Through partnerships with network providers, Cirrent allows ZipKey-enabled products to connect automatically to the internet, making IoT products more secure and easier to use.
The SAMSUNG ARTIK platform brings hardware modules and cloud services together with an ecosystem of tools and partners to speed up time-to-market of IoT products. However, getting products connected easily and securely to the internet remains a difficult challenge for developers and end users.
"With millions of potential IoT devices needing to be connected, ease of connectivity is critical," said Eric Dewannain, Sr. Director, ARTIK Product Management, Samsung Strategy & Innovation Center. "With Cirrent's offering, SAMSUNG ARTIK customers will have a broader set of best-in-class tools to speed up time-to-market and provide a greater user experience for the end customer."
Faster, more secure connectivity is proven to reduce support costs and product returns, offering a competitive advantage to product manufacturers. Recent data from an Accenture study showed that one in five consumers could not successfully connect their products. Consumer Reports magazine announced in March it will add data security to its ratings of technology products.
"We are seeing tremendous growth in the deployment of connected products and 45% of U.S. broadband households are concerned that someone will get access to a smart home product," said Patrice Samuels, Sr. Research Analyst, Parks Associates. "As these products become mainstream, ease of use and security will become even more important. The Cirrent technology with the ARTIK platform allows product developers to integrate these capabilities into their products, which will help alleviate consumer concerns and accelerate market adoption."
Leading internet service providers have come together to let ZipKey products connect automatically and securely to Wi-Fi. ZipKey products provide a much better out-of-box experience, eliminate the need to remember complex Wi-Fi passwords, and in many cases automatically update the passwords when the home network changes. Leading product companies are ZipKey-enabling their products to bring these benefits to customers and to reduce the cost of support and product returns.
"As the Internet of Things grows, companies will need end-to-end platforms like Samsung's ARTIK platform, and end users will demand easy-to-use ZipKey products," said Rob Conant, CEO of Cirrent. "Samsung shares our vision of putting the end consumer first, making product setup easy and making products secure, and with ZipKey support in the ARTIK platform, product companies can now bring easy-to-use, secure products to market faster."
