CLEAR Coalition Leads Effort to Close Delaware Loophole
Coalition members to join Pennsylvanians in Tax Day Events Across the State
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The CLEAR Coalition will host a series of tax day events as part of a statewide campaign urging lawmakers to close the Delaware loophole and delay corporate tax cuts and to use the revenue to restore the devastating budget cuts proposed by Gov. Tom Corbett.
"We simply cannot afford another year of corporate tax cuts and tax loopholes. It makes no sense to allow large corporations to avoid paying their fair share by moving profits out of state. This loophole should have been closed years ago," said David Fillman, Chair of the CLEAR Coalition and Executive Director of AFSCME Council 13. "Pennsylvanians in every corner of the state understand that we can close this loophole and restore funds to public education, our colleges and universities and social service programs."
The Delaware loophole costs taxpayers up to $500 million a year, according to some estimates. Governor Corbett has proposed a $100 million dollar corporate tax cut by reducing the Capital Stock and Franchise Tax. The CSFT phase out has been delayed four times since 2000 and it should be delayed again this year.
"The Commonwealth cannot afford corporate tax cuts while proposing deep cuts in education and health care. The General Assembly should delay further capital stock and franchise tax rate cuts and use the $100 million to restore cuts to schools, hospitals, and domestic violence shelters," said Fillman.
CLEAR represents more than 1.1 million Pennsylvania families. For more information, go to www.clearforpa.org or contact Rebecca McNichol, at 267.239.3399. A complete list of events is pasted below.
