Jerry Jewler was born and raised in Washington, D.C. and served two years in the Army at Ft. Jackson, S.C. He earned a bachelor's in journalism and a master's in American studies from the University of Maryland and began his career as an advertising copywriter for Sears and Roebuck catalogs, later at several advertising agencies, and from there to teaching mass communications at the University of South Carolina for 28 years. He now lives in Columbia, S.C. with his wife. He is the author of a creative textbook in advertising and a college success text, both in multiple editions. He is an active volunteer at several community organizations.
