Industry Leaders Honored for their Contributions to the Field of Computer Performance Analysis, Capacity Planning, and Service Delivery

During the conference, a number of industry leaders were recognized for their contributions to the field of computer performance analysis, capacity planning, and service delivery.
The CMG'11"Best Paper" award and the Mullen Award were both shared by the following two individuals:
- Michael Giglio of Shelter Insurance with his paper "The Penguins Have Landed: Getting Started with Linux on System z"
- Erik Ostermueller of FIS Global with his paper "Help Developers (Finally) Find Their Own Performance Defects."
The "Best Paper" is chosen from a very select set of papers that the conference paper referees deem as "best paper" quality when they read and evaluate the submissions for the conference.
The J. William Mullen Award is given in memory of CMG past president Bill Mullen in recognition for his contributions to CMG and the profession of information technology. The award recipient is an individual who exhibits both technical excellence and an engaging presentation style.
CMG awarded the A. A. Michelson Award - its highest award for lifetime achievement - to the following individual:
- Adam Grummitt, Distinguished Engineer, Metron
Albert Abraham Michelson was known for his technical accomplishments in measuring the speed of light and for his role as teacher and inspirer of others. CMG presents this highly prestigious award to recognize those rare individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the computer evaluation field.
Adam Grummitt received the prestigious A.A. Michelson Award for his 20 + years of contributions to the development of Capacity Management and Software Performance Engineering (SPE). He has done pioneering work on the specification and design of software for
multi-platform capacity planning which has reached a global audience. In his role as a founding Director of Metron, Adam has contributed original design and specification for computer software using analytical modeling and rule-based expert system techniques. Products created have covered performance analysis, capacity planning and SPE, which have been applied
across all leading computing platforms.
Mr. Grummitt has worked tirelessly as a Director of both CMG and UKCMG and at executive committee level with itSMF. He is renowned for his presentations at major IT international conferences, workshops, master classes, published white papers, press articles, columns on the web, as well as his acclaimed "Capacity Management - A Practitioner Guide."
