Coconut Club Vacations Reviews Extraordinary Backpacking Adventures

BILLINGS, Mont., Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A great hike for beginners is New Zealand's Milford Trek. The climate allows year-round hiking on 53.5 miles of well-maintained trails. The hike takes 4 days and leads hikers through lush native greenery, New Zealand's tallest waterfall and spectacular fiords carved by ancient glaciers. New Zealand has dozens of backpacking opportunities for all levels of experience.

For a slightly more strenuous Hike, the Inca Trail is only 30 miles, but the climb is steep, ascending to over 13,800 feet. The stone-paved trail created by ancient Incans is so popular the Peruvian government has limited it to guided hikes only. Breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, prehistoric architecture and Machu Picchu highlight this more challenging hike.

The Appalachian Trail is the worlds' longest continuously marked hiking trail, traveling through 14 states and takes up to six months. The trek runs from Maine to Georgia and the hilly trail reaches some of the highest peaks in the Appalachian Mountains. The majority of the trail winds through open wilderness and portions of the trail range from beginner to moderate in difficulty. Hikers can opt to do any portion of the trail from a one day hike to the entire 2,174 miles.

For more advanced backpackers the 2,663 mile Pacific Crest Trail that begins at the Mexican border, travels through California, Oregon and Washington and ends at the Canadian border. This challenging hike through deserts and mountains and bitter cold is only completed by about 300 robustly fit backpackers each year. Hundreds of hikers choose the shorter options and are rewarded with spectacular scenery which includes clear-blue mountain lakes, majestic mountains, deep canyons, and high elevations with panoramic views of scenic terrain.
