Codenvy Introduces Continuous Development Cloud for Enterprise Teams and DevOps
First automation platform for provisioning, sharing and scaling developer environments
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Codenvy introduced the Codenvy Developer Environment Cloud to provision, share and scale developer environments. Developers devote more than 13 hours a week to administering their development environments. Building on its base of 150,000 users and 350,000 projects, Codenvy is giving developers and DevOps teams a new way to get that time back with the immediate availability of a new Codenvy SaaS and on-premises solution.
Codenvy's automation engine is based on task-specific microservices. Codenvy builders are pre-populated with common build systems and push compiled artifacts to Codenvy runners. Runners take that code and dynamically inject it into Docker containers that quickly load any environment. Finally, Codenvy factories allow the developer to take that running environment and clone it, or share through IM or email.
"Over the past decade we have witnessed a power shift - a limited supply of engineering talent has allowed developers to take control of how they work. Yet they spend up to 1/3 of their time configuring environments, instead of coding," said Codenvy CEO and Founder, Tyler Jewell. "Codenvy is the first solution to automate the creation of projects, plug-ins, dependencies, builders and runners so teams can focus on developing, not configuring."
Built on Eclipse Che and standards-based REST APIs, Codenvy's fast, secure and extensible workspaces allow developers to work online or offline with any IDE and in any language, including Java, Angular, Android, Scala, Play, PHP and C++.
Codenvy is now available as SaaS, or in on-premises and "white label" packages. Free accounts are available with unlimited projects. Codenvy Premium Developer Plans start at $1 per month and scale up to 2TB of RAM.
Quotes
- Jeff Brewer, Distinguished Engineer, Intuit®: "I use Codenvy to get developers building new features for QuickBooks® in a few minutes using factories. The edit, build, run, repeat life cycle in the new version is amazingly fast and flexible so there is little need for a hard-to-install and maintain local development environment. I can access my environment from anywhere with no performance or functionality hit."
- Lynn Langit, Big Data Architect and Evangelist: "As a Big Data Architect, the new integration between Codenvy's editor and data environments will make my development workflow faster and more efficient. On a personal note, I am passionate about teaching programming to children and Codenvy's ability to collect behavioral analytics from developer environments will allow me to tailor my curriculum to the needs of each child."
- Kin Lane, API Evangelist: "The production environment for delivering web and mobile applications has radically evolved in the last couple years, becoming more distributed, scalable, virtualized, and containerized. APIs, and new development frameworks are providing a smorgasbord of resources for developers to put to work, and devops is putting more power and control, throughout the development lifecycle, directly into a developers hands. It is time that a developer's environment evolves to keep pace the environment they are building applications for—this is Codenvy."
