Cognizant and Cognition put autonomous AI engineering into production at Odyssey Logistics, with a 37 percent net cost saving

Rebuilding Odyssey's transportation management platform from legacy forms into cloud-native software, with Odyssey reporting a 37 percent net cost saving inside a fixed budget and accelerated timeline.

TEANECK, N.J., Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) and Cognition announced production results from autonomous AI engineering work at Odyssey Logistics, along with an expanded set of collaborative offerings built on Cognition's AI software engineer, Devin.

Enterprises modernizing their technology estates face a persistent constraint: the work is often well understood, but engineering capacity is scarce and conventional modernization programs can run for a year or more before delivering value. Cognizant and Cognition have worked together since 2024, and entered into an AI engineering collaboration in January 2026 to help address that constraint directly.

Devin, Cognition's AI software engineer, is designed to take on multi-step development tasks – planning, writing and testing code across complex systems – working alongside Cognizant's engineers. Cognizant brings the industry depth, delivery scale and governance that enterprises require before letting agents near the systems that run their business. Cognizant has trained more than 3,000 associates on the Devin platform, and applied to its own engineering work, Devin has cut time to release-ready code by more than 50 percent and accelerated greenfield development five to six times¹.

Since then, the two companies have developed a combined set of offerings. These now include a modernization and upgrade offering designed to support and automate most conversion, templating, migration, testing and fixes at scale; a quality engineering offering that embeds Devin to identify test-coverage gaps and assist in generating test cases automatically; and a Frontier AI Cyber Defense offering built on a Devin-based capability.

Odyssey Logistics is a global multimodal logistics provider with a freight network of more than $3B, serving industrial customers with complex transportation and supply chain needs across chemicals, metals, food-grade product and other specialized markets. The company combines managed transportation, modal expertise, technology and executional discipline to help customers move freight safely, efficiently and reliably.

Odyssey is currently working to launch its OdysseyONE platform, intended to support order intake, execution, visibility and lifecycle management across its network. Odyssey set out to consolidate its order intake and full shipment lifecycle onto that platform. The workflow logic behind it sat in legacy Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications forms, which are hard to scale, maintain or integrate, and the original business rules had to survive the migration intact. A fixed budget and a tight delivery window ruled out a conventional rewrite.

A seven-person Cognizant team used Devin to handle the legacy conversion, rebuilding the forms as cloud-native applications and generating tests, deployment pipelines and documentation alongside the code. Every change was reviewed and signed off by a Cognizant technical lead or architect before merging.

Delivery throughput rose by roughly a third and Odyssey recorded a 37 percent net cost saving against the conventional approach. The current phase is live and the program continues.

Before committing to the re-development, Odyssey tested the approach with Cognizant and Devin on a separate, standalone legacy application. That project closed 21 days after kickoff, and the results gave Odyssey the confidence to apply the same model to its transportation management platform, now in production.
