The annual 5K Run & Walk retraces the steps of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who strapped on 60 pounds of gear and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, where he laid down his life to save others. The event supports Tunnel to Towers' mission to provide mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, as well as specially adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.

The 2025 Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run & Walk NYC will take place on September 29th in New York City. Participants will follow the same route Stephen Siller took on September 11, 2001, starting at the Brooklyn entrance of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel) and finishing at the World Trade Center.
