College Station Dickey's Barbecue Owners Support Cause Close to Their Heart

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Jan. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Local Dickey's Barbecue Pit Owners in College Station, Texas, Lee Ann and Bobby Jones, announce their plans to increase their already heavy involvement with the surrounding school system in 2011.

"I was a school teacher for 20 years and I know how badly these public school systems need our support," Mrs. Jones said.

Jones said she has made it a point to participate in fundraisers and community involvement events that raise money for school supplies and programs supporting teachers' efforts.

"The Pebble Creek spring carnival is coming up in March," she said. "For this event we donate sandwiches that they sell at the carnival. The profit they generate is used to make improvements around the school and to buy items to improve classroom learning. It is a great cause."

In addition to event participation, Dickey's donates coupons and free food vouchers to reward students.

"The public school system doesn't have a lot of funds to reward outstanding students. That is where organizations like us come in. We like to give them free kids' meal certificates for kids who have perfect attendance or great grades," she said. "It keeps them motivated and it allows us a chance to give back."

Dickey's encourages all franchise owners to engrain themselves in the surrounding community.

"We want to give the franchisees a foundation for success with a strong business model and ongoing support, but then we leave it in their hands to make their Dickey's a community staple," President Roland Dickey Jr. said.
