DENVER, July 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 29th Annual Heartland Emmy Awards awarded a recent project led by Evolution Communications Agency and funded by The Colorado Health Foundation. "Encrucijada: Sin Salud No Hay Nada" ("Crossroads: Without Health, There Is Nothing") won in the category of Informational/Instructional - Program/Series/Special. Anne Smith, principal at Evolution, led the development of the project, along with producers Santino Adducci, Harrison Stephens and Miguel Hernandez. This is the second award for the latest installment of the "Encrucijada" series, which also won a Bronze Leaf Award from the Colorado Healthcare Communicators at the 2014 Gold Leaf Awards Ceremony.
The "Encrucijada" Series is rooted in the concept of the wildly popular Spanish-language telenovela (soap opera) and reaches viewers with health content presented in a storyline with a dramatic flair. Previous topics include enrollment in CHP+ and Medicaid, and healthy eating/active living. The third iteration of "Encrucijada" was created to educate viewers about the value of health insurance, and how to navigate the new state health insurance marketplace.
"The evidence shows that the Hispanic population is very interested in getting health insurance," said Project Manager Anne Smith. Smith cites a study released in September 2014 commissioned by the Colorado Health Foundation, "Two-thirds of uninsured Hispanics in Colorado are concerned that they don't have coverage, but they need to be made aware that insurance has become more affordable." The study also shows that most Hispanics in Colorado are not aware that they may be eligible for financial assistance to help them pay for their health insurance premiums.
Evolution facilitated production of the one-hour drama in English and Spanish and managed the associated media buy and promotion of the program, which aired statewide on Rocky Mountain PBS VMe, KCDO-K3, KDEN-Telemundo and KCEC-Univision.
