Commission for Case Manager Certification expands CMLearning Network with new journal, webinar on new insurance marketplaces

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Sept. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With polls showing more than half of American's don't understand how they will be affected by the new insurance marketplaces set to open Oct. 1, a webinar from the Commission for Case Manager Certification (the Commission) offering expert guidance to case managers could hardly be more timely. The Commission's CMLearning Network™ will present a new webinar Sept. 18, 2013, featuring Mandy Cohen, MD, senior advisor to the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on navigating the new health care marketplaces.

The webinar, "Case managers as connectors, educators, advocates in the new insurance marketplace," is offered free of charge and will later be posted as a CMLearning Network resource for public access. The Commission's CMLearning Network features webinars, issue briefs and other learning tools designed to advance education and training of both the board-certified case manager and the professional case manager through certification, renewal and continuing education. State-based health insurance marketplaces, a centerpiece of the Affordable Care Act, are anticipated to expand coverage to millions of uninsured or underinsured people. Starting Oct. 1, consumers can apply for health coverage options through these marketplaces. Case managers, in their role as advocates, are the natural connectors to clarify the process for consumers who may find accessing new coverage a challenge.

The Commission recently announced that the Academy of Certified Case Managers has joined with the CMLearning Network in making CareManagement its official journal. Board-certified case managers now have direct access to this resource, which provides continuing education opportunities in each issue. The Commission also offers face-to-face training workshops for professional case managers to prepare for its Certified Case Manager (CCM®) credentialing exam.
