Commtouch Security Number of the Month June 2013: 34% Increase in Malicious Websites

MCLEAN, Virginia, June 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

In May and the beginning of June 2013, the number of websites infected with malware increased by more than one third: there are currently 34 percent more compromised sites listed in Commtouch's GlobalView™ URL filtering database than in the first quarter of 2013.

The number of phishing sites detected also increased over the same period, although their growth has been slower (3.6 percent). The increase follows on the heels of a drastic rise in email spam during the first five months of 2013, much of which is aimed at luring users to malware-infected websites.
