COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Dec. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Compassion International, a Christian child development-through-sponsorship ministry, is featured in the newly opened 430,000-square-foot Museum of the Bible (MOTB), located three blocks from the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. The Compassion exhibit, which highlights the ministry's 65-year history and mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name, can be found on the museum's second floor – "The Impact of the Bible" – within the "Bible in the World" area through 2019.
Compassion's exhibit includes a 2-minute video featuring the experience of Compassion alumni, David Kirika of Kenya, as well as Compassion's response to the Bible's call to care for the poor and vulnerable through its mission. A letter written from a Compassion child in Haiti to his sponsor is also part of the exhibit, as well as artifacts of Compassion children, such as shoes made from old tires in Kenya and a soccer ball made from garbage bags and string from Uganda.
"When a visitor walks through Museum of the Bible, they see snapshots featuring the Bible's influence throughout the world," said Dr. Seth W. Pollinger, director of museum content for MOTB. "When Museum of the Bible wanted to tell the story of how the Bible has inspired the work of nonprofits around the world to care for those in need, we thought of the great work of Compassion International. As a child-advocacy ministry that matches caring people with those who are suffering from poverty, Compassion International has taken the Bible's message of providing for those in need and used it to propel a movement of charitable people to help millions of children globally."
"We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Museum of the Bible," said Compassion's senior marketing project manager, Derek Jones. "We anticipate that millions of visitors will have the chance to learn how the Biblical mandate to care for the poor and vulnerable directly impacts Compassion's mission on a daily basis. The exhibit artifacts demonstrate the ingenuity and resourcefulness of our sponsored children living in extremely challenging environments, and the impact that personal communication can have on the sponsored child and the sponsor."
Through its child development programs, Compassion delivers life-sustaining services and care to more than 1.86 million babies and mothers, children and young adults living in extreme poverty in 25 countries worldwide. Among the support Compassion beneficiaries receive includes education, health care, nutrition, clean water, vocational training, Bible-based teaching, and encouragement through letters of hope-filled messages written by loving sponsors.
