NICEVILLE, Fla., March 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Congressman Brian Mast will be the keynote speaker at the 51st annual EOD Ball being held at the Emerald Coast Convention Center on May 4, 2019. The joint service Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community holds the ball annually to celebrate life and commemorate those EOD warriors who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The Emerald Coast Convention Center is located at 1250 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Congressman Mast is himself an EOD Badge wearer and is a combat-decorated U.S. Soldier who prior to his election to congress served more than 12 years in the U.S. Army, earning decorations to include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Purple Heart Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
"EOD techs are the ones that are called when our warriors who deal with snipers and being shot at, want to back up and go the other way because of explosive ordnance," Rep. Mast said. "They are the defenders of those who defend this country, and it's an honor to be able to help commemorate the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep their brothers and sisters in arms safe."
The EOD Ball on Saturday night will culminate the week's events which includes the EOD Memorial Ceremony held earlier that day at NAVSCOLEOD, Range Rd, Niceville / Eglin AFB property. Other events include a golf tournament Friday morning at Bluewater Bay Golf Course and a live Auction on Friday evening also at the Convention Center. The EOD Ball will host around 1,000 people for an evening of speeches, tradition and dancing.
The EOD Warrior Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps military EOD personnel and veterans and their families. There are around 7,000 EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) technicians in the military, performing the most dangerous job in the military as they disarm explosive devices on the battlefields.
